Easily Detect CUI And Get Instant Reporting
Scan your piping for outside corrosion without removing insulation using a bracelet probe that reports instant data you can act on.
Corrosion under insulation occurs when water gets underneath the insulation and remains trapped. Unless you are able to see staining, you’ll never know your pipe is degrading.
With the many kilometers of piping that most facilities have, this can be a costly, time consuming issue to solve that would normally involve hours of insulation removal...where you might not even find anything after investing all that time.
While a few traditional methods exist for finding CUI including pulsed eddy current, searching for moisture hot spots using thermal imaging, and simply stripping the insulation, these methods are slow and time consuming.
A Bracelet For Your Pipe
The method I’m sharing with you today uses a bracelet probe that wraps around any pipe 6 inches in diameter and up(including insulation thickness). This bracelet probe scans an area 10 inches wide at about a meter per minute.
It takes numerous samples per second and displays them on an easy to read screen as a color map. You’ll instantly know the condition of your pipe as the software generates a reading in green, yellow, or red, making it obvious which areas require attention.
The probe uses electromagnetics with an exciter and an array of detector coils that monitor variations in wall thickness through time delays. The time delay on the measurements is converted into wall thickness.
While these electromagnetic techniques are not as accurate as ultrasonics, you’re able to get an overview of the pipe using the bracelet technology, and any problem areas it identifies can be honed in on with the traditional methods you’re used to.
You’re able to save costly hours and manpower on removing insulation by getting a relatively quick overview of the condition of the outside of your piping.
Plus, the reporting function built into the software generates a report instantly. You can get data quickly so that you have a preliminary report of your pipe condition, and then it can be analyzed in even further detail during the few days after, gaining insight on individual pits and actions to be taken.
This bracelet is also adaptable to flat surfaces, tank roofs and bottoms due to its flexible design. Its made of a plastic material keeping it lightweight, and has wheels that guide the bracelet smoothly down the length of your pipe or surface, ensuring an accurate corrosion reading.
I’ll also mention this bracelet can be used for corrosion under fireproofing(CUF).
Save Time With Instant Reports
This Bracelet probe technology has the potential to save you a ton of time and money by letting you easily scan for external corrosion on insulated pipe.
It provides instant data you can use, and there is no limit to how much you can scan with these bracelets.
You’ll easily know where all the problem areas are on any section of pipe without having to remove any insulation, and can create an immediate action plan so that safety at your facility is never compromised.
In our next CUI post, I will share with you two more types of bracelets not mentioned here, one that lets you easily detect internal corrosion on bare piping, and one that identifies compromised structural integrity on concrete pressure pipe.
